How to Bulk Organize X Bookmarks with Tags, Folders, and Notes
Select a group of imported X bookmarks in XSaved for Chrome, add or remove tags and folders, append a shared note, and check the result with Undo available.
To organize a group of X bookmarks in XSaved for Chrome, narrow the library, enter Select mode, choose the posts, and open Edit…. You can add or remove tags and folder memberships, append a shared note, then apply the changes to the selection. The result message offers Undo.
The Chrome extension is permanently free, including bulk editing. Local use needs no XSaved account; import requires a signed-in X session, and optional XSaved sign-in enables full-library sync. Start with the Chrome guide if you have not imported your bookmarks yet.
1. Define the group before selecting
Use a keyword, exact phrase, author, tag, or folder to find the relevant posts. For example, search for a tool name and choose an author if you only want that person's examples.
Review the results before editing. A broad word can collect unrelated posts. If the changes would matter across a large part of the library, save a dated export first.
2. Select the intended posts
Open Select and pick individual cards, or use Select All for the current view. Select All is designed to cover the current search or folder scope, including matches beyond the cards already rendered. Check the visible selection count and any warning before proceeding; if the requested selection cannot be retrieved fully, the UI can fall back to a smaller selection.
Do not interpret Select All as always meaning the whole library. The current scope matters. Use Clear Selection if the selected set is wrong.
3. Open Edit… and stage the changes
The dialog shows folders, tags, and a note. Nothing is written until you apply the edit.
| Change | Result |
|---|---|
| Add a tag | Adds it to each selected bookmark while retaining unrelated tags. |
| Remove a tag | Removes that tag from the selected bookmarks that have it. |
| Add a folder | Adds membership without removing other folders. |
| Remove a folder | Removes that membership while keeping the bookmark in the library. |
| Add a shared note | Appends the text after each bookmark's existing note. |
A tag or folder can be present on all, some, or none of the selection. Leave a mixed item unchanged if you want to preserve which posts currently have it. You do not need to make every bookmark's organization identical to add one useful shared label.
Bulk notes append; they do not replace individual notes. Review the note text before applying it to a large selection, and pay attention to any limit or partial-result message.
4. Apply, then check the outcome
Review the staged changes and selected count, then click Apply. For a larger batch, let progress finish and read the outcome. An interrupted operation or a field limit can produce a partial result rather than changing every selected post.
Open a few affected cards and verify the tags, folders, and note. If the operation was wrong, use Undo promptly while the result message is available. Do not rely on that temporary action as a permanent history of earlier edits.
Example: prepare a research folder
- Search for the project subject and inspect the matches.
- Select the relevant posts.
- In Edit…, add the project's folder and a tag such as
to-review. - Optionally append a short shared note such as “Consider for the onboarding research review.”
- Leave other tags and folders unchanged, apply, and check the result.
After reviewing the posts, you can select that project group again and remove to-review. The bookmarks can remain in the project folder and any other folders they already belonged to.
These are organization edits in XSaved. Removing a folder membership differs from deleting a bookmark. Keep cleanup focused on Edit… when your intention is to change labels rather than remove posts.
For a lighter ongoing system, see organizing a large bookmark library. You can try the demo to explore the product, though it should not be used as proof that every production bulk operation is available there.

Checked October 17, 2026 against XSaved for Chrome v0.114.0 Select All handling, the bulk Edit dialog, organization updates, note append, partial-result messages, and Undo. This describes the shipped Chrome workflow, without a bulk-edit performance benchmark or a claim that organizational changes are written into native X tags or notes.
