How to Create X Bookmark Folders Without X Premium
Create folders for your X bookmarks in XSaved for Chrome without X Premium. File a post in two folders, browse and search a folder, or remove membership without deleting the bookmark.
You can create folders for your X bookmarks without X Premium using XSaved for Chrome. Open XSaved's Folders, click the + button, name the folder in New folder, and click Create. These folders organize your XSaved library; they do not unlock X's native Premium folder feature.
X documents its own bookmark folders as a Premium feature. The steps below use XSaved's folder layer instead.
Before you start
Install XSaved for Chrome, sign in to X, and import your available bookmarks. The Chrome guide covers setup. You can use the local XSaved library without an XSaved account; optional sign-in enables full-library sync.
The extension is free today. Optional one-time purchases are planned for some premium features, but are not yet available. See pricing for the current status.
1. Create your first folder
- Open Folders in XSaved's bottom navigation.
- Click +, whose tooltip is Create folder.
- In the New folder dialog, enter a name such as
Researchin Folder name. - Click Create. The folder appears in the folder list.
Creating a folder does not automatically file your existing bookmarks into it.
2. File a bookmark
- Find a bookmark in the XSaved grid.
- Open its card actions and choose Edit.
- Choose Folders in the Edit dialog.
- Select
Research, then click Save.
This adds a folder membership to the existing bookmark. Its other tags, notes, and folder memberships remain unless you change them.
3. Add the same bookmark to a second folder
Create another folder, such as Presentation, using Folders → + → New folder. Open the same bookmark's Edit → Folders again, select Presentation, and leave Research selected. Click Save.
The bookmark now belongs to both folders. You do not need to duplicate the post or choose only one place for it.
4. Browse and search within a folder
Open Folders and choose Research, or click the Research folder chip on a bookmark card. XSaved shows that folder's bookmarks and a folder filter pill.
Type a keyword in Search bookmarks to narrow the folder. Existing author, tag, or media filters can narrow it too, so clear unrelated filters if expected posts are missing. Remove the folder filter with the pill's × when you want to search the wider library again.
5. Remove a bookmark from one folder
Open the bookmark's Edit → Folders, deselect Research, leave Presentation selected, and click Save.
The post leaves Research but remains in Presentation and your XSaved library. If you were browsing Research, its card disappears from that view because it no longer belongs there. Removing a folder membership does not delete the bookmark or unbookmark the post on X.
For several posts at once, use the bulk organization guide. Before a large cleanup, you can export an HTML or JSON copy.
Will these become native X folders?
XSaved folders work without X Premium. Local XSaved folders do not grant access to native folders in X's mobile app or website. When an X account supports native folder creation, XSaved can also create and work with those native folders. Do not assume a folder created without that access will appear in X's own folder interface.
Sources and scope
Checked October 19, 2026 against XSaved for Chrome v0.114.2 source and X's official folder instructions. The labels, multiple-folder selection, folder filtering, and membership removal were verified in code, not through a live browser test.
